We're using data and technology to empower advocacy groups to effectively engage with their communities and policy makers on education. And we need the best people to accelerate our mission. Our open positions are listed at the bottom of this page.
Murmuraton's mission to amplify voices committed to education, is ambitious, but so too is our team. Our team includes experts and innovators in data, analytics, technology, and strategy. We are former teachers, organizers, data scientists, technologists, and political campaign veterans. We have diverse backgrounds, but the same goal.
Murmuration uses a remote-first office model that allows our staff to live and work anywhere (dependent on role and team). In this hybrid environment, the NYC office serves as a central hub — a place for individuals and teams to come together to collaborate and cultivate relationships.
We believe in the power of data to inform decisions, to build deep understanding over time, and to drive actions that put our partners, and the sector as a whole, in the greatest position to succeed — cycle over cycle, year over year. We strive to continually build our knowledge and skills, and we work to drive impact by fostering growth and learning for our partners, and the sector as a whole. By following the data, we willingly abandon ideas that do not produce sufficient results and experiment with new ones that show potential. We share our analyses and findings with partners and the sector at large, so that we can all collectively become smarter and more effective.
Civic engagement is a critical lever for breaking the cycle of generational poverty, the scourge of systemic racism, and ultimately achieving the level of equity that we want to see in this country. We are dedicated to increasing the reach and impact of our partners and the influence of the sector as a whole, so that we can realize a more just and equitable world. Each member of our staff and partner in our network is a part of a bigger and broader effort to provide all children with an equitable and high-quality public education. We come from different backgrounds, we have different experiences and perspectives, but we are all committed to working together — constantly, and intentionally — to dismantle inequities within the policies, systems, programs, and communities across the nation.
We know that the problems facing our country, our politics, and our public education system, took a long time to develop and that there are no silver bullets to solve them overnight. We believe that excellence and equity in our public schools can be achieved, but it will take a continuous effort, from a broad coalition -- and we are committed to being part of those efforts for as long as it takes to be successful to drive systemic changes. We are in a position to think about and plan beyond the current political cycle and legislative session, are concerned with more than short-term actions and short-lived victories, and strive to drive sustainable, meaningful change. And so our strategy considers the potential opportunities and challenges that we, and the broader sector, will face well into the future.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion underscore all aspects of our mission and are critical building blocks to achieving a more just and higher quality public education system. We are committed to putting in the necessary work to safeguard these values, and ensure dignity and respect for all. We strive to build an organization, and a network, that is inclusive of everyone and values the unique experiences and perspectives of our community members. Though we work hard each day to advance the opportunities of all marginalized children, our work barely scratches the surface. We know there is so much more work to be done, and we are committed to doing that work together, so that we can realize a more just and prosperous nation.
At Murmuration, we seek a deep understanding of root causes of inequity, pursue intentional disruption of behaviors that sustain systems of power, and foster an unrelenting commitment to continuous learning. Our continuous learning requires critical self-reflection of our social identities, exploring the role of self, and drawing attention to the attitudes, beliefs, or biases that each of us carry. Through our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we are better positioned to tackle the historical and systemic challenges that hinder educational equity.
Murmuration's commitment to equity is long term, and the reasons that motivate us to engage in this work vary. For some of us, we have experienced marginalization and exclusion, and feel a responsibility to reclaim power and repair the systems that have failed our communities. For some of us, we are learning about the systems that shape our society and create inequitable outcomes, and feel a responsibility to interrupt systemic inequities and our personal biases. In acceptance of our lived experiences and backgrounds, all of us recognize our privilege and opportunity in the education sector and want to advance equitable outcomes for children and communities across the country.
We strive to include and hold one another accountable to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in our daily work. We welcome that every person brings a unique experience and perspective to our work, and that those experiences and perspectives advance our fight for every child to have equal access to an equitable and high quality public education.
We believe that when you build a community that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, you generate more innovation, more creative solutions— and ultimately more meaningful impact.
We know that the DEI journey is a continuous one, and there will never be a moment when we can sit back and say, “We've done it.” And we know that the journey of excavating, challenging existing beliefs, and forging more inclusive ones is not easy. But we are up for the challenge.
To that end, we have built up internal structures and processes to help push the work forward, and we know that the work cannot be done well without full buy-in and authentic collaboration. That’s why all staff members here at Murmuration are expected to be a part of and actively participate in DEI subcommittees. These subcommittees, along with our DEI Steering Committee, work to ensure that DEI is embedded in everything we do- in the way we build up our internal community, the way we support our external partners, and the way in which we transform education.
Our people are what drive our mission. And when we say we care about our people, we mean it. Take a look below at some of the benefits we provide to our staff to ensure that they are best equipped to lead happy, healthy, and balanced lives. Take a look at what we offer:
